BOWIE Bowie Junior High Principal Tom McEwen had the sad task of telling staff and students Tuesday that Band Director Jim Clark had died early Tuesday in a Wichita Falls hospital.
Clark had been ill for some time and had been unable to regain his health, according to the principal. He joined the BJHS staff in 2005 after directing bands in Vernon, Hollis and Ringwood, OK. He received the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association Outstanding Director Award in 1989, 1990, 1992 and 2004.
Superintendent Greg Evans said Tuesday that Clark loved Bowie ISD and the students he served, adding "he will be greatly missed." Principal McEwen agreed saying Clark loved teaching.
"He just loved students and would do anything to help any kid whether they were in band or not. Band and music were his passion; he wanted to share that with every kid. He was always caring and understanding of student needs. It was very hard this morning," said McEwen.
There will be A Celebration of the Life of Jim Clark at 2:00 P. M. on Thursday, November 20, at the First Free Will Baptist Church located at 505 Strong Street in Bowie. The services in Hollis are scheduled for Monday evening, November 24th at 7:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church. Carter Stewart Funeral Home in Hollis, Oklahoma is organizing the services and arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks those who wish may donate to the Bowie Bands.
Those who wish to share a memory regarding Mr. Clark may do so at the Bowie Junior High School Website.
