Memorial services for Raymond Lloyd Cook, 79, of Saltillo, will be 2:00 pm Thursday, October 11, 2007, at Central Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs. A private burial was conducted at Old Saltillo Cemetery. Arrangements were under direction of West Oaks Funeral Home.
Mr. Cook was a high school and college band director for 53 years. After retirement he began beginner band programs at Saltillo ISD and Sulphur Bluff ISD.
Lloyd is is survived by his wife Barbara; his four children, David, Diane, Doug, and Donna; and nine grand children; and three great grand children. Lloyd was retired and lived on his and Barbara’s farm in Saltillo, TX outside of Sulphur Springs. I know that I will leave something out, but here are some of the places Lloyd was a band director: De Queen, Arkansas, Corpus Christi, Graham, Irving, Denton, Carrollton, Sulphur Springs, Saltillo, Sulphur Bluff, Sul Ross College in Alpine, Southeastern College in Oklahoma and UCLA in California. Lloyd was also Director of Fine Arts in Birdville ISD and Garland ISD.
Family visitation was Wednesday evening, October 10, 6-8 pm., at the West Oaks Funeral Home, HWY19 and I-30 in Sulphur Springs. A memorial service for Lloyd was held on Thursday, October 11, 2 pm., at the Central Baptist Church, 840 Connally Street in Sulphur Springs.
