Dr. Bill Moffit

Dr. Bill Moffit, 82, passed away March 5, 2008. A native of Canton, OH, Dr. Moffit had lived in Jacksonville for the past 20 years. A nationally acclaimed marching band arranger and clinician, he was the former Marching Band Director at Michigan State, the University of Houston and Purdue University. Dr. Moffit had retired from Purdue as Professor Emeritus of Bands. He was an Adjunct Professor of Music for Jacksonville University and had served as the Director and Arranger of the First Coast Pops Orchestra. Dr. Moffit is survived by his wife of 27 years, Jeannette; sons, Rick and Don Moffit; step-daughters, Joanna Weise and Bobbi Huerth; sister, Marilyn Bowen; four granddaughters, Amy Dixon, Sabrina Huerth, Debby Lloyd and Wendy Cohon; three other grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A celebration of Dr. Moffit's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2008 in the funeral home chapel with Mr. Charles Davis officiating. Members of the Jacksonville Community Concert Band will play a musical tribute to Dr. Moffit who founded the band. The family will receive friends beginning one hour prior to service time. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the William Moffit College Professorship Endowment.
