
Celebration of Life services for Lee Boyd Montgomery, Jr., 73, of Lubbock, will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009 in Resthaven's Abbey Chapel, with Sam Robertson officiating. Lee Boyd passed from this life on Monday, Dec. 14, 2009 in Lubbock.
Lee Boyd Montgomery, Jr. was born on March 28, 1936 in Slaton, Texas, to the late Lee Boyd and Mae (Custer) Montgomery. He graduated from Littlefield High School. Lee Boyd graduated from Texas Tech University in August of 1958 with a Bachelor of Music Degree. He later graduated from West Texas State University in August of 1964 with a Master of Arts Degree. He served as Band Director from 1956 to 1997 in the Ropes ISD, Sudan ISD, Bowie ISD, Canyon ISD, Dodge City, Kan. ISD, Edinburg, Texas ISD, Eanes ISD, Austin, Texas, Texas Lutheran University, Seguin, Texas, Sequin, ISD, Los Alamos Public Schools, N.M. and the El Dorado Elementary, Santa Fe, N.M., 6th grade classroom from 1998 to 2001. Between 1975 and 2007, he received many awards for his outstanding contributions to Music Education. These include the following, 2001-Inducted into the Alpha Chapter of Phi Beta Mu (Texas) Bandmasters Hall of Fame.
2007- Received the Texas Band Masters Association's 2007 Meritorious Achievement Award. Lee Boyd was a charter member of National Band Association. He was also a member of Kappa Kappa Psi/Tau Beta Sigma, Phi Beta Mu, Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association and College Band Directors National Association. He served from 1993 to 1994 as Governor of Lions Club Texas District 2-S5. 2001 to 2007 as President New Mexico Lions Band Foundation and from 1999 to 2007 as the New Mexico Lions State Eye Screening Coordinator, New Mexico Lions Eye Foundation.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Misty Gartman and husband Dean; grandsons, Brady, Bryce, Brant and Brenner Gartman, all of Forsan, Texas; and his partner-in-life, Mary Jane Shannon.
