Larry Jim Sparks, 70, passed away peacefully at his home on September 8, 2007.

He was born on December 11, 1936 in Spearman, Texas and moved to Canyon Lake in 1975. He was the first Band Director at Smithson Valley High School, where he served from 1976-1985. He then taught at Fox Tech HS (1986-1987) and Edison HS in San Antonio (1987-1996).

Larry was a member of the Lion's Club, the Masonic Lodge, Texas Bandmasters Association, and Texas Music Educators Association. He was well known as an engaging storyteller. He will be greatly missed.

He is preceeded in death by his beloved wife, Ann, his parents, James and Lometa, and his brother, Jerry.

He is survived by his brother, Evan Sparks of San Antonio; his children, Robert Sparks of Plano and Lee Ann Steeves of Canyon Lake; and his grandchildren, Thomas, Sarah and Mary Sparks, Stuart and Erin Olsen, and Karli Steeves.

A memorial picnic was held on Saturday, September 15 at 2 p.m. at Landa Park (area #7) in New Braunfels.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Lion's Club in lieu of flowers.
