Douglas R. Williamson, age 83, of Universal City, Texas, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2010, in Universal City, Texas. He is survived by his wife Barbara Williamson; son, Doug Williamson of Universal City. Mr. Williamson is also survived by his adopted granddaughter, Wendy Ryan, grandniece, Cameron Christian as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton at 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 19, 2010. Interment was at Anchorage Cemetery in Poteet. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Universal City Animal Shelter, 262 Kitty Hawk Rd, Universal City, TX 78148.
He was a long time Band Director at Pleasanton and in the Judson School District and a member of the Phi Beta Mu Texas Bandmasters Hall of Fame, was well respected in the San Antonio Area and also did many arrangements for his colleagues as well as writing for the SMU Mustang Band and he wrote some of the earlier sightreading tunes.
After retirement, he continued to teach private lessons and judge. He was a credit to our profession and will certainly be missed.
