Agenda

Old Business -

Auditions process was discussed. In the last meeting, sixth grade possibilities for auditions. Sixth graders may not audition for ATSSB All-Region by ATSSB rule.

New Business -

Jr High recommendation to review audition music to discuss alignment of music between instruments. There was a call for directors to submit recommendations of new etudes or suggestions to the appropriate committee. Sax, oboe, flute do have a common etude in different years that may be aligned during the same year. There was question as to why we do not use ATSSB suggested list. Brass etudes are off the list, but only some woodwind etudes are. The reason was that ours are more difficult and we did not want to water this down. There was a suggestion to do what the new region is doing, however there is a fee of $200 to use the music. There is already alignment of brass etudes, and discussion was made of doing the same for woodwind etudes. Woodwind, brass, and percussion committees were read and charged with meeting and coming up with a recommendation by the May meeting. Bobby McCoy will head the three committees to make sure that the three committees are able to get together and make a suggestion by the May meeting. Committees and reports are listed online on the website. Committee will decide what year their suggestion would take place. An entry fee raise was brought up in order to split flute and clarinet rooms in future auditions.

Calendar for next school year was discussed. Comparable date for All-Region jazz is Sept. 29, 2007 in Grand Saline. Ellis Kilgore was talked to about getting the music ready earlier. Clinic/Concert comparable date is November 12 and 13, 2007 at Quinlan Ford. HS All-Region audition site was discussed and decided to be at Mabank. Comparable date is November 29, 2007. There was discussion about moving it into December. Nov. 29 was chosen. Could start as early as 4:00. JH auditions will take place at Kaufman JH. It will be an early release date and could start early afternoon. Comparable date is Dec. 4th, however basketball tournaments and academic UIL may interfere with that date. Kyle White will e-mail the region to have the date set before other possible conflicting events. There was a vote between Tues, Dec 4 (5 votes) and Thurs, Dec 6 (7 votes). Clinic/concert comparable date is January 11 & 12, 2007, however it will be changed to Jan. 18 &19 to coincide with Martin Luther King Day. There was no opposition. Jazz audition date was discussed as to how the new start date for schools will affect the date. Decision to stay as is for now.

There was discussion as to what is acceptable for fees paid to clinicians. Possibilities are brought up to either set a cap or charge the finance committee. Kyle White will decide with the advice of the finance committee when contacting possible clinicians.

John Young made a motion to raise audition fees by $1. Based on this years audition, a $1 raise would cover the shortfall. There was discussion as to whether or not $1 is enough to raise. It would not hire extra judges to split JH long audition rooms. Unanimous decision to raise audition fees by $1 to $9.
