Minutes to Meeting on August 5, 2000

Elmer Schenk opened up two ideas for discussion.
1.  Since beginners at any grade in choir can use Class 3 Solos, he
suggested an idea that a similar rule be made for band.  Survey in the
meeting showed support of this idea.
2.  Suggested proposition of getting memory eliminated at the region
solo contest.
Memory only for state level.  Survey in the meeting showed disagreement
about this idea.

Host for the 1st band this year is John Young (Clinician - Jack Delaney)
Host for the 2nd band this year is Monty Ashcraft (Clinician - David Christy)

Percussion facilitators -  Tony Dorsey (HS concert) and Ben Estes (MS symphonic)

Finance committee report - Account, Jazz report, scholarships, tryout fees.
Discussion about raising tryout fees to accommodate the growing costs to the organization.

Motion made, seconded to raise all tryout fees by one dollar.
Regular honor band tryout fees are now $7 and Jazz tryout fees are $9.

Rob Toups now member of finance committee.

Note from Kenneth Griffin:  Schools that compete in UIL, TMEA, and ATSSB activities must do so all in the same region.  Any changes to other regions need to be made this year. Will not happen next year.

Send Middle school tryout rosters to David Gudgel.  (Tryouts are on Nov. 30)
Send High School tryout rosters to John Young.  (Tryouts are on December 1) Checks or purchase orders are due 30 days before contest

Discussion of Folder organization at contest - JH level - Eacker in charge.

Jazz tryout date is Tuesday, March 27.  Clinic and concerts are on April 6 and 7 at Tom Bean.  Mr. B needs recommendations for clinicians.

Concert and Sightreading contest is at Quinlan (Ford) - Scott Johnson.  This is 15 miles north of Terrell and easy to get to from I-30 or Hwy 80. Email
Bonnie Bartlett with problems in scheduling.

This is an X year for honor band tryouts.  Proposed changes to Y year material was passed out. This years audition material can be found on the web.

Motion made and seconded to not judge wrong music in contest.  Passed.
DO NOT JUDGE WRONG MUSIC.

Membership procedure...  Directors must be members of ATSSB and TMEA to tryout.  Memberships can be purchased by mastercard/visa.

State Marching contest is in Waco this year... not Mesquite)
C & C UIL is in Quinlan... NOT Frisco.
Sounds of Spring March 30, 31.
Celina Solo Contest - April 28 (also day of Denton Arts Fest).
