OPS Ranking and Scoring

  • Using a FIVE member panel (or panels) and the Olympic scoring system (omit the highest and lowest scores), the judges will rank all of the MARCHES and all of the CONCERT SELECTIONS in each classification (1C, 2C/3C, MS/NV (pilot), 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, and HSNV (pilot).
  • Should a tie occur, all scores within the tie must be ranked using the judges’ preference system.
  • Conductor’s scores will not be used at any level of competition. The judges’ decisions will be based only on aesthetic standards.
  • The judging panel(s) shall determine which TWO MARCH selections and THREE CONCERT selections will advance to the next level of competition in each classification. 
  • In all adjudications, only current ATSSB members may serve as judges. The only exception shall be: After a Region Coordinator has exhausted all attempts to secure ATSSB members as judges, that Region Coordinator may use non-ATSSB members as judges provided those non-ATSSB members are active TMEA members. It is highly recommended that Region Coordinators seek judges who have demonstrated success in UIL or comparable evaluations, representing various school classifications, with preference to TMAA membership when possible.
  • The State Winners of the MARCH and TWO CONCERT SELECTIONS in each classification will be presented a plaque recognizing the accomplishment. The runner-up of the MARCH (2nd place) and CONCERT SELECTION (3rd place) in each classification will receive a plaque with a certificate marking the accomplishment. Presentations will be made by the OPS State Chair at the general membership meeting of ATSSB in San Antonio in February of each year.
  • Region adjudication and advancement to Area will be certified by 11:59 pm on Saturday, June 6, 2026
  • Area adjudication and advancement to State will be certified by 11:59 pm on Saturday, June 20, 2026
  • State adjudication will be the morning of Thursday, July 26, at the 2026 TBA convention in San Antonio
