The Kenneth Griffin Exemplary ATSSB Band Program Award
The purpose of the Award is to identify, recognize and honor exemplary ATSSB Middle School/Junior High School and High School band programs across Texas with emphasis on the following areas:
- Excellence
- Community
- Education
Programs are only eligible to receive the award every ten years.
One Middle School/Junior High School and one High School may be awarded each year.
Criteria for selection:
- Head director must be a member of ATSSB and must have been in that position for at least five years, including the current year.
- Band Program must have achieved and maintained a high standard of excellence over a period of a minimum of the most recent 10 years (with supporting documentation).
- The band program must offer its participants a complete and balanced program of musical activities including, but not limited to, Concert, Solo and Ensemble, and Marching (if offered) areas and provide documentation of Superior Ratings.
- Students in the band should have optionally participated in All-Region, All-Area and All-State Bands when applicable.
- Nominations are due no later than February 1 of each year.
- The Selection Committee
isshall be composed of currently active Past Presidents of ATSSB and additional Committee members appointed by the Executive Secretary of ATSSB. Committee members will meet at an appointed time during the ATSSB All-State Band Clinic and announce the winners at the ATSSB General Session in February. Awards will be presented at the ATSSB General session in July. - Winners will be awarded an Exemplary Honor Plaque like the award presented to OPS State Winners.
